Best practices for recording on a computer and Mac OS desktop app
Follow these tips for the best experience when recording from a computer browser or the Riverside MacOS desktop app.
Before recording
Check your computer's processing cores. Riverside works best when your computer meets the following criteria:
If recording video and audio: at least 8 cores
If recording only audio: at least 4 cores
Ensure you have at least 5 GB of free space on your browser.
Restart your computer before recording to free up its temporary memory.
Ensure Graphics Acceleration is enabled.
Use a computer with the Google Chrome, Safari, or Microsoft Edge browser that is up to date.
Please note: you cannot use Incognito/Private mode to record.
Allow Notifications in your browser from Riverside.
This ensures that Riverside can properly process your recordings. You will not receive any notifications from us, unless we detect a recording issue.
Ensure your set-up meets our minimum system requirements.
Temporarily turn off any VPNs, browser extensions, content blockers, or firewalls.
Ensure a stable internet connection. You can test it here.
If you're using a Mac, download our MacOS desktop app for the highest quality recordings.
When you record
Plug your computer in to a power source while recording.
Close other browser tabs and applications, especially any that use your microphone or camera or require a lot of your computer's processing power.
If using a Mac, try using the Riverside Studio macOS app for better performance.
IMPORTANT:
After you finish recording, leave the Riverside browser window open until you see the Upload Complete confirmation.
Audio & Video
Before recording
Check our equipment guide suggestions for your specific mic and camera.
Test and preview your camera: riverside.fm/webcam-test.
If you plan to share your screen, test it in the Riverside Studio.
When you record
Wear headphones to prevent echo and increase overall audio quality.
Use an external microphone rather than your device's built-in mic. We recommend a wired microphone. However, a wireless microphone or a microphone built into wired headphones is also suitable.
