26 DJ Chubby Chub: #NoExcusesChub

Chubby Chub was there for all of it. He saw Wild Style on opening day at the RKO on Fordham Road. He watched T La Rock and Special K rehearse routines. He built his first setup out of a borrowed turntable, a $50 RadioShack mixer on layaway, and nickels on the tone arms. Then his block humbled him. "You local." So he learned to talk on the mic, cut his first tape in April 1992, and let the masters travel. That run took him to New England, Hot 97.7 in Boston, tours with Kelis and 50 Cent, and a Twitch show that won three awards. Along the way he dropped from 486 pounds to 235, and now he's cutting for a bodybuilding stage. No excuses.

Forty-five years in hip hop, and he's still the hardest worker in the gym. Chub came up when you had to chase legends down the block and usually missed them. Now he's the legend people chase. Part two is already on the books. Kidnapped in Africa, Fat Joe, and the time he almost took out Jay-Z. Stay tuned.
