24 DJ Eddie One: Every Shift But Midday

DJ Eddie One didn't start on the decks. He started on Sunset, putting up poster boards for Priority Records and Interscope. He ran a vinyl record pool with DJ Vice, moved Felli Fel's mixtapes from store to store, and only made the switch to DJing in his early twenties, right when Serato showed up and street promo started dying.

Then 2005. A trip to the Mixshow Power Summit in Puerto Rico, a mall run for Barrio Fino and The Last Don, and a mixtape built on the flight home. It got bootlegged all over LA, which is how he knew it worked. Telling Sirius he was a Heavy Hitter got him on Hot Jamz 50. Saying yes to pop got him on KIIS FM. Waiting a full year got him the call from Latino 96.3. He's been there since 2006, and he's worked every shift but one.

Eddie One closes with what he'd tell the YNs. Find your lane. His was Spanglish, and he rocks it without forcing it. Polish the rest. And respect the craft. He's on a controller for corporate gigs, but on the radio it's tables first, CDJs second, controller last.
