18 Jessy + Uly Terrero: 8 1/2 Hours to Canada, Popping No Doz

Two brothers from Jamaica, Queens talked their way into a movie set and never left.

This week Kast One, Enuff, Camilo and L. Boogs sit with Jessy Terrero and Uly Terrero, with DJ Lobo pulling up. The video camera their mother bought to keep them off the block. The Video Music Box announcement that sent Jessy to an open call for an untitled Ernest Dickerson project. The lost-keys lie that got him back in the room with Winsome Sinclair. The Band-Aid on Uly's nose that got him cast. Both brothers ended up in the Latin gang in Juice, making $35 a day and playing cee-lo for it on set.

Then the part nobody tells you. There were no roles for them, so they went behind the camera. Uly built the casting company that filled every video in New York. Jessy learned to write ideas next to Diane Martel, wrote the concept for "Money, Power & Respect," then drove himself 8 1/2 hours to Canada on NoDoz to shoot a Ghetto Concept video for $10,000 because no Canadian director would touch the treatment. That video turned into Fat Joe's check, and Fat Joe's check turned into "Wanksta," 25 videos with 50 Cent, and a phone that rang with everybody who wasn't scared of G-Unit.

Also in here: why Jessy shot LA to look like Queens, what it cost to be known as 50's guy, the years he spent telling people reggaeton was America's next hip-hop while nobody bought it, Uly walking into a Tower Records line for a group he'd never heard of, shooting Aventura on film instead of digital, Camilo's first industry gig at the Above the Rim wrap party in 1994, writing Sofía Vergara into Soul Plane, Terry Crews auditioning for one line, selling Nicky Jam: El Ganador to Netflix in the room, and the Hibiki that took Jessy out at Drink Champs.
